Johnny Carson, the king of late-night American television for 30 years, died yesterday aged 79.
The host of NBC's The Tonight Show served a nightcap of celebrity banter and droll comedy. 'Heeeeere's Johnny!' was the booming announcement from sidekick Ed McMahon that ushered Carson on stage."
