Newsletter #20 - The Church of Spiritual Humanism
Newsletter #20 - The Church of Spiritual Humanism Newsletter #20 - The Church of Spiritual Humanism April 29, 2003 – Philadelphia www.SpiritualHumanism.org In the February newsletter I talked about how we must protect things that belong to every one. There is a limit to how far this can be taken and that edge is marked by the right of individuals to be left alone and not interfered with. People do have a fundamental right to privacy and to make decisions that will affect their own life. It’s the consequences of being left alone that determine when this right is applicable. This is because as individuals we are each in the best position to determine what is best for our well being. When a third party authority imposes its power upon us the situation often becomes too tempting even for the most scrupulous entities. In these situations we must tread carefully. Suffering and misery are often increased in the name of good when the real motivations, such as power and control, lie elsewhere. IN THE NEWS Throng packs Washington to support abortion rights While the march was not explicitly partisan, the president was a frequent target. By Associated Press Published April 26, 2004 WASHINGTON - Abortion rights supporters marched in the hundreds of thousands Sunday, galvanized by what they see as an erosion of reproductive freedoms under President Bush and foreign policies that hurt women worldwide. The huge crowd marched slowly past the White House, chanting and waving signs like ‘My Body Is Not Public Property!’ and ‘It\'s Your Choice, Not Theirs!’ then filled the National Mall, turning it into a sea of women, men and children. see full story at Full Story EDITORS NOTE: All people have the right to make medical decisions about their body. Women in particular have the right to make their own choices on personal reproductive issues because of the compounded suffering, poverty, and misery that result from generations of unwanted, unplanned offspring . On a related note Karen Hughes, an adviser to George W. Bush, equated the one million people marching peacefully for their rights and the ‘terror network’ which killed 3,000 people on 9/11 and that we are currently at war with. (see http://www.cnn.com/2004/ALLPOLITICS/04/27/hughes.abortion.reut/ ) This is nearly the same as Department of Education Secretary Rod Paige\'s recent reference to the National Education Association as a "terrorist organization." ( see http://www.paysonroundup.com/section/opinion/story/14728 ) It is worrisome: The 2.7 million teachers that belong to the NEA, and the one million marchers in Washington are labeled as terrorists, at this rate it won’t be long before the government finally informs us that the majority of Americans have ties to the "terror network." Depleted Uranium = Gulf War I and II Syndrome
Depleted Uranium = Gulf War I and II Syndrome
Depleted Uranium = Gulf War I and II Syndrome Something interesting that I have been talking about with friends lately is Depleted Uranium. My experience with DU started when I learned about Depleted Uranium rounds in the US Navy while I was in Fire Controlman A School, and was lucky enough to not have been stuck on the Phalanx 20mm Depleted Uranium weapon. This nasty Heavy Metal packs quite a punch on the battlefield, and at sea, and unfortunately doesn't stop once the motion of the projectile has stopped. Depleted Uranium is one of the 3 isotopes of Uranium; 2 are used as reactor fuels and the one that is left (the plentiful isotope) is used as Depleted Uranium for Armor and Armor piercing projectiles. When DU rounds are fired and impact the targets, the point of impact now has a radiation level of 1000 times prior to the level of radiation of the round before firing. On impact the higher density of the DU causes quite an explosive impact on the armor of the target which lets of Depleted Uranium dust, this dust soaks into the ground which contaminates ground water, and this dust can also be breathed in by humans and animals. The US government still likes to say they have no idea why Desert Storm veterans suffer from symptoms that seem to resemble radiation sickness and/or Heavy Metal contamination. Hmmmm.... Pentagon: depleted uranium munitions aren't environmental threat Not only is this bad enough the US Government likes to say there is no threat from DU, but they actually have training videos that show soldiers how to minimize the exposure to the affected areas, safety etc. Unfortunately the US military doesn't think the saliors and soldiers should see that training video. I guess the US government doesn't want it's soldiers stopping after each battle to fill out Radiation Exposure forms, or clean up the hazards they have just imposed onto the environment, or know the real threat that they face. Follow this link for the Military DU Training movie Now after another war (and countless conflicts) more and more US and allied Veterans will be affected, as well as the poor souls who have to live in the areas where DU projectiles are used for they have cancer, birth defects, radiation sickness to look forward to. There also has been talk that reports from Los Alamos labs were suppressed in order to keep the Depleted Uranium projects going, god forbid the pentagon lose funding for a project. As Americans it is time to hold our government accountable for its actions, as we are held accountable for ours. Using DU is illegal according to the Geneva convention. Read More It seems that a large portion of the American people seem to think everything is going to be ok, well I am not sure about that. It is up to us to write to our elected (yea right!) officials and tell them our views so when we see those polls on the conservative controlled media the officials will still be flooded with our real views. tracyv ![]() This work is licensed under a Creative Commons License.
